I’m Carrie Semmelroth,

your District 17 Idaho State Senator.

As your state senator, I will continue to:

Fight to fully fund our public schools and universities, ensuring every Idaho kid has the opportunity they deserve.

Advocate for common-sense property tax relief for Idahoans, especially those on fixed incomes and tight budgets.

Defend Idaho’s clean air, clean water, and access to open spaces.

Stand for our shared values of civility, decency, and kindness.

Fiercely fight for reproductive freedom.

I’d love to talk! Send me a message.

My Story:

My fondest memories live in the backcountry of Idaho’s wildest places. As a kid, my dad instilled in us a love for the outdoors. Dad likes to say that there is no place like Idaho, where you can drive an hour in any direction from Boise and get to totally different types of geology. I still love exploring and recreating in our beautiful Gem State and take seriously our responsibility to ensure future generations get the same chance.

Carrie as a child with her parents.

When I’m not hiking, skiing, backpacking, and camping, I work on strategic initiatives and planning for Boise State University’s College of Education. I’ve worked in education for over 20 years and have a doctorate in education and a master’s and teaching certificate in special education.

My passion for education began while attending public school as a child, where I was fortunate to have incredibly supportive teachers and school staff. Our hardworking educators can make all the difference in a young person’s life, and I believe all of Idaho’s students deserve an opportunity to learn and thrive.

In November 2021, Governor Little appointed me to serve the remainder of former Senator Ali Rabe’s term as Idaho State Senator for District 17. I was sworn in soon after and served the entirety of the 2022 Idaho State Legislative Session.

I’m a long-time resident of the Boise Bench where I live with my significant other, Graham, two bonus kids, our lovable (but mischievous) dog Buckley, and our sweet, elderly cat Livingston.

It’s an honor to serve District 17, and I’m eager to continue building on what I started.
